As I sit in Geography with boring Mrs Isaac, I see something out of the corner of my eye that distracts me from the map of Europe. It is a black, shiny circle with a green light beaming towards the ground. It is heading towards the ground really fast, like a meteor. I think it's going to hit Farmer Joe's field! Boom! I am so surprised and can't believe what I am seeing!
"Did you see that?", I yell as I leap out of my chair.
"What is it Bradley?", asks Mrs Isaac.
"I just saw a UFO! It just crashed on Farmer Joe's field," I tell everyone.
"Bradley, we all know that UFO's don't exist. That noise was just Farmer Joe's machinery. Sit down and stop being ridiculous."
I sit down to a chorus of, "Sit down loser," from my classmates. As I sit down, miserably and try to concentrate, I keep
thinking about that black thing in the sky. I know what I saw. I realise that I have a free period next. I am going to find it and prove them wrong.
As the bell rings, I hang around as the others leave so no one notices what I am doing. I slip out the window, sprint across the garden and climb through a hole in the bottom of the fence before anyone sees me. I dart across the empty road and into Farmer Joe's field.
As I move carefully through the field, I notice that the corn growing there all seems to be tilting away from an area in the middle of the field. I can smell a strange smell, like burnt corn cobs. I am starting to feel a little scared but I am determined to prove those mean kids wrong.
I edge slowly towards the burnt circle that I can see, with small fires still burning. It's still really hot and smokey and it's hard to breathe so I pull my shirt up over my mouth. As I investigate around the burnt ring, I notice something very strange. There is a burnt corn cob with a bright, glowing glob of something that looks like snail slime. I hear a noise behind me that sounds like someone is trampling through the corn. I look over my shoulder towards the sound and see a glittering, green light shining through the corn stalks. I shuffle towards the light, following a trail of gooey slime, until I see the source of
the bright light.
I am gobsmacked at what I see. This cannot be true. I must be imagining this. I rub my eyes, then open them again. In front of me, huddling behind a rock, is a skinny creature, covered in green, slimy, drooping skin. I am actually looking at a real alien! It has big, round, black eyes and it is shaking like a rattlesnake's tail. I wonder if it is shaking to threaten me or if it is terrified. I can see that it is sucking on a corn cob and it looks as though it is really enjoying it. It seems small and I wonder if it is just a child. It stretches its slimy, drooping hand towards me and I realise it is offering me the corn cob. Its hand isn't shaking anymore. It's friendly!
I reach out my hand and take the corn cob. I wipe the slime from it and I nervously take a bite. Now I understand why it was enjoying it so much. It's delicious.
As we sit, eating, the alien slowly creeps from behind the rock and seems to float towards me until it is right next to me. Slowly, so as to not frighten it, I reach into my pocket and pull out my iPhone. I slide up to open the camera and raise my hand until I can see the alien and myself on the screen. 'Click'. I now have a selfie with an alien!
I am excited to show everyone in Year 10 my selfie. They will have to believe me because I have proof. Now I can finally be popular at school. In the distance, I hear the school bell ring and I quickly wave goodbye, turn and bolt back to school.
As I arrive, breathless, late, to Maths, everyone turns to stare at me. I can't hold it in, so I blurt out, "It was an alien! I've got proof! Look!" I hold out my phone, proudly, to show everyone my selfie, expecting them to be amazed. I am confused when everyone starts to laugh and jeer. I turn my phone to find out what they are laughing at. Oh No! This is a nightmare! The picture is all blurry! You can't see what it is.
Why did I bother? I will always be a geek. Disappointed, I walk slowly to my desk, putting my phone back in my pocket. Suddenly there is a knock at the window. As everyone turns towards the open window, panic erupts. People are running frantically everywhere. Some are hiding under the desks. They're screaming like wild monkeys. The teacher seems to be frozen with fear, mouth wide open and eyes as big as tuna cans.
As my classmates watch in amazement, I walk over to the window and climb out. I take the alien's hand and lead it back across the garden, through the hole in the fence, across the road and into Farmer Joe's field. Just as I reach the burnt circle in the field, I hear a humming noise above me. Everything around me suddenly looks green. I look up and see a black, shiny, circular shape above me with a green light beaming at the alien and me.
Slowly the alien floats upwards, waving to me, into an open hatch on the UFO. At the open hatch, I see two larger aliens and I realise it really is a child. As the hatch closes, the UFO lifts and flies away at lightning speed. I feel a bit sad. I'm going to miss the alien.
As I return to school, walking through Farmer Joe's field, I can hear a faint noise. It sounds like my name, over and over. I reach the playground and see that all of Year 10 are in the playground and they really are chanting my name.
"Bradley, Bradley, Bradley!" I'm shocked. They actually think that I am a hero. This is too good to be true. Maybe that alien will help me to not be the geek anymore.
